A New Day and a New Year

Today is a new day and I am forever grateful that His mercies are new each morning. The coughing still resounds in my home, but today I’ve got a better perspective for a multitude of reasons. More sleep, hormones seemingly better and a plan. Sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming when everyone is sick at once (including both parents) and they all seem to need something different. These are the moments that I feel that a big, huge dry-erase board on my kitchen wall with the master plan color-coded for each person would be fantastic! The varied needs of each person still need to be managed, but somehow are easier to deal with when I have a plan.

A plan…hmm…there’s a thought. It’s a new day and new year. Have you got a plan for this new year of 2010? At this time of year, some people make resolutions. Some have set goals. Some have half-hearted thoughts. What do you have in mind for this year?

As you can probably imagine, I’m a bit delayed in this resolution/planning thing this year. I’m still in the half-hearted thought phase, but as I am making my way out of this fog I did manage to remind my kids today that we needed to compile “Our 2010 Wish List.” Every New Years Day, we compile a list of things we’d like to accomplish for the year. Sometimes we cross alot off of our list, but rarely do we finish them all. Since we haven’t quite put that together yet, I will share it with you later this week. I also intend to give more clarity to the things I’d like to accomplish, as the Mama, and share/challenge you with those. Here’s a look back at our 2009 list:

Our 2009 Wish List

Build a play structure in the backyard.

Go to Legoland & Disneyland.
Mini-Me go to church camp.
The Talker wants to learn more about bats.
Littlest One wants to go to Chuck E. Cheese.
The Negotiator wants to go to Pump It Up.
Plant a summer garden of vegetables.
Visit our friends in our old neighborhood.
Go to the movie theatre.
Plant more flowers in our backyard garden.
Build a greenhouse for winter vegetables.
Ride a horse & see the bats at our friend’s house in the country.
The Talker go on a trip to Carlsbad Caverns.
Be pen pals with our cousins who live out of state.
Ride our bikes more.
Do a project that would help orphans.

I encourage you to take a look forward with your kids and see what kind of dreams they have for the new year and make them your family dreams to fulfill.  If you don’t accomplish one–no worries!  Just add it on to next year’s goals.  We’ve had “build a playstructure” on the list for many years, but we just press on in hope and focus on all that we HAVE done.  Looking forward to hearing what you and your kids dream up for 2010!

Yes, plans are good! My resolution for this year is to focus more on my new family and begin some of our own yearly/holiday traditions.

I’ve already had to make some hard choices about letting go of some extracurricular activities that I really don’t have time for, but it feels good to know that it will leave me more time to enjoy my family.

    Happy new year!
