Maybe you don’t even want to read this post today, but I can’t help but write this post. It’s a long story, but I wrestled all night long with these questions and I feel like I need to ask them of you. I’m not giving any answers. Just asking more questions like usual.
Do you realize that your children are not truly yours? They God’s given to you on loan. Do you parent with that in mind? When you are looking for parenting answers, do you turn to Oprah and Dr. Phil or do you turn to the Lord and His Word? Do you pray and ask God for His wisdom and then wait for His answer? Wouldn’t it make sense to turn to the One who made them?
Romans 11:33a “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!”
James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
Are you spending equal measure of time in God’s Word as you are watching Oprah? I am just as guilty at this type of thing, but how is it that we can say we have no time for a “quiet time with the Lord”, but yet we can carve out time to watch our favorite show each day?
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Are you and your parenting skills being transformed by the world or by Him who made you and your children?
I liked that we talked about this last night. it made a lot of sense to me. it’s convicting even for someone without kids… because we’re always influencing someone.
as Matt Ford said, “you should always have one hand up and one hand down”.
I am not a big Oprah or Dr.Phil fan, but I am still guilty of not taking that time with God every day like I should.
How much easier could I find it to be a Mom and to raise the little ones that He made than by reading the “manual” He wrote for them!
Thanks for the thoughts!
Great post…. Great questions. I am “chewing” on them. I agree with your premise – we are what we choose to put into our minds…. will it be God’s way of thinking or the world’s.
And the part about not taking problems with our children to God first – yep, I’m guility of that. I will purpose to remember that it is He who made them, He knows the answers!
Thanks for the wonderful words of Truth! 🙂
